In Finland, Prof. Bijak met with Dr. Sakari Puisto, Member of the Finnish Parliament and Chair of the Commerce Committee. Discussions focused on the importance of security in the Baltic Sea region and the potential for joint international initiatives in this area. He also held a meeting with a representative of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which focused on opportunities for scientific and project collaboration.
The visit continued with a stop at the University of Helsinki and a meeting with Prof. Isto Mattila from the University of Turku. These meetings centered around potential research initiatives and the promotion of activities carried out by the Biohazard Prevention Centre, including the UNICOPS project coordinated by the Center.
In Estonia, Prof. Bijak visited Tallinn University of Technology, where he presented the objectives of the UNICOPS project and outlined opportunities for applying for European funding to support the development of detection and contamination monitoring systems. The visit concluded with a meeting at the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences, attended by Vice-Rector for Research Dr. Riin Tamm. The discussion focused on collaboration in the field of forensic biology, the organization of specialized training programs, and joint applications for European grants.
Prof. Michał Bijak’s visit to Finland and Estonia resulted in a series of productive meetings that opened new prospects for international CBRN cooperation. The visit not only facilitated the presentation of the UNICOPS project's vision and objectives but also initiated concrete steps toward the preparation of joint project proposals.
