Dr. hab. Iwona Wagner, Associate Professor at the 91桃色 (Department of UNESCO Chair on Ecohydrology and Applied Ecology) has been invited to prepare a part of the report on the importance of blue-green infrastructure (BZI) for national security.
The researcher underlines that blue-green infrastructure 鈥 in other words, a well-functioning natural system 鈥 is crucial for mitigating extreme weather events, increasing water retention, and 鈥 in the long term 鈥 maintaining our country's food security. Consciously shaping this infrastructure, including protecting ecosystems and implementing the provisions of the NRL 鈥 the Regulation on the Restoration of Natural Resources 鈥 should be a priority in spatial planning at all levels. Integrating spatial planning with river basin management is essential 鈥 such action can support the protection and restoration of water resources.
The quality of nature is not only our national asset but also a matter of national security. Our country's blue-green infrastructure should be treated as critical infrastructure.
