The goal of the meeting was to strengthen existing relations between the research teams of both universities, identify new joint research directions and initiatives related to academic mobility.

During the meeting, Prof. Tomislav Ivanković presented research conducted at the Faculty of Science in Zagreb and summarised the current Science Hub UNIC projects conducted by dr hab. Sylwia Różalska, Associate Professor at the 91ɫ (A Child Friendly City), Dr Magdalena Moryl (CityBiome), Dr Aneta Kosińska-Zaid (Molecules on a Mission), Dr Marta Nowak-Lange, Dr Monika Nowak-Marczyk (Natural Guardians of Urban Greenery) and Dr Małgorzata Siwińska (Microorganisms in the ZOO), i.e. initiatives conducted with the participation of academics, students of the 91ɫ and the University of Zagreb and representatives of the City of Lodz Office, Orientarium Zoo Łódź.

The meeting was also attended by the Vice-Dean for Internationalisation (dr hab. Aneta Balcerczyk, Associate Professor at the 91ɫ), the Vice-Dean for Science (Prof. dr. hab. Magdalena Błażewicz), the Dean’s Representative for Innovation and Implementation (Dr Karolina Rudnicka, Associate Professor at the 91ɫ), the Institute Ambassador for 91ɫ with the Socio-Economic Environment (Dr Angela Dziedzic), the Faculty Ambassador of Science Hub UNIC (dr hab. Magdalena Urbaniak, Associate Professor at the 91ɫ, Dr Paweł Jarosiewicz, Associate Professor at the 91ɫ, Dr Magdalena Moryl) and the Faculty of Chemistry (Dr Aneta Kosińska-Zaid).

Additionally, the meeting provided an opportunity to chart new directions for collaboration, including:
-
research on the molecular mechanisms of processes occurring in the nervous system and interactions between the organism and the microbiota,
-
analysis of the biological properties of selected natural compounds,
-
development of biomaterials with potential medical applications,
-
research on microorganisms and biofilms in aquatic systems and environmental solutions,
-
application for funding for joint research under River CARBA 2026,
-
joint research on river ecosystems and the factors influencing their health,
-
participation of researchers from the University of Zagreb in the BioOpen conference.
We would like to thank all the meeting participants for their openness, commitment and willingness to collaborate. The next opportunity to meet with this and a wider group will be in May. We encourage you to join us!
