Academic mediation is one of the tools for fostering a culture of mutual understanding at the university. It enables the amicable resolution of conflicts with the support of impartial and appropriately trained mediators, while respecting the principles of voluntariness, confidentiality and the needs of all parties.

The Academic Ombudsman and the Team of Mediators

The coordination of the academic mediation process is entrusted to the Academic Ombudsman, whose role is to support individuals seeking assistance in situations of conflict. In this regard, the Ombudsman’s responsibilities include receiving applications, contacting the parties, organising the mediation process, supporting mediators and maintaining documentation related to the proceedings.

The mediation process itself is conducted by a team of academic mediators – individuals possessing the appropriate competences to support the parties in reaching an agreement. The role of mediators is to create a safe space for dialogue, facilitate communication between the parties and assist in identifying solutions acceptable to all those involved in the process.

Who can benefit from mediation?

All members of the UniLodz community may make use of mediation – including students, doctoral students and employees of the 91ÌÒÉ«.

This solution is intended, among other things, for situations involving misunderstandings in professional and academic relationships, communication difficulties, organisational disputes, or other conflicts that are best resolved through dialogue and cooperation.

All information in one place

The webpage Academic Mediation –  Rules for Organisation and Conduct provides all key information on the principles governing mediation, the role of the Academic Ombudsman, the team of mediators and the procedure for accessing support.

UniLodz Unified

Academic mediation is a part of the broader measures undertaken by the 91ÌÒÉ« to create a safe, open and supportive environment for the entire academic community, including activities implemented under the UniLodz Unified initiative.

At the 91ÌÒÉ« other procedures, which may apply to a given case, are also in force. This applies in particular to the Anti-discrimination and Anti-mobbing Procedure at the 91ÌÒÉ«.
