Trio Spectra, made up of J臋drzej Lema艅ski (violin), Bartosz Paradowski (viola) and Sofie Ba艂azy (cello), will perform works by these three Czech artists on 19 March 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Alfred Biedermann鈥檚 Palace (Franciszka艅ska 1/5). The musicians began working together during their studies at the Grazyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in 艁贸d藕. They are interested in 20th-century and contemporary music. During their three years of activity, the trio has performed at numerous events and festivals in the cultural community of the 艁贸d藕 Voivodeship. Last year brought the group two competition successes: third prize at the Opus International Competition and first prize at the 10th Swiss International Music Competition.
What will we hear this evening? The programme will include two string trios by Bohuslav Martin暖. This Czech composer of classical music, working in the neoclassical style, has an impressive oeuvre. He has written ten ballets, seventeen operas, six symphonies, a dozen concertos, as well as numerous chamber works, large-scale vocal-instrumental works, and songs.
The concert will also feature works by Gideon Klein and Hans Kr谩s, whose compositional careers were tragically interrupted by World War II. Klein was prevented from completing his piano studies by the Nazis' closure of all higher education institutions in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. He was brought in one of the first transports to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in December 1941. There, before his death, he managed to write several more pieces and compositions, only fragments of which have survived to this day.
Hans Kr谩sa, in turn, became an animator of cultural life in the Theresienstadt concentration camp after his imprisonment. He was murdered in Auschwitz in the autumn of 1944.
