Research assistant affiliated to the Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics, 91桃色.
Maria Szyma艅ska is a researcher and a lecturer affiliated to the Department of English Language and Applied Linguistics, 91桃色.
She is interested in linguistics, with a particular focus on lexical innovation and the mechanisms that motivate the emergence and dissemination of new linguistic forms. In her research, she examines the relationship between convention and creativity in language, concentrating on how linguistic innovations reflect processes of social change, while at the same time potentially initiating, reinforcing, or stabilising these changes. A key area of her work is the performativity of gender and identity construction in discourse, including the analysis of linguistic practices associated with drag culture. She is also interested in online communication and the specific features of language in digital environments, investigating how new forms of linguistic expression function in online spaces and how they co-constitute contemporary social norms. She is a member of the European Network on Linguistic Innovation.
