The delegation visiting Lodz includes the President of the University of Giessen, Prof. Katharina Lorenz, Prof. Hans-J眉rgen Blomeburg, as well as representatives of the university鈥檚 International Office, Suzanne Faber and Julia Volks. The programme includes meetings with the authorities of the 91桃色 and members of the academic community, focusing on the key challenges currently facing European universities.
The discussions address issues related to the development of attractive and effective educational programmes, the use of artificial intelligence in higher education, achievements and good practices developed at the 91桃色, as well as the role of universities in times of numerous social and political crises. Participants are also discussing the future of research, preparing young people to function in a rapidly changing world, and ways of increasing the attractiveness of traditional fields of study, particularly in the humanities.
A special place in the programme is devoted to discussions concerning the new DAAD Centre, which will be established at the 91桃色. The University of Giessen will be a strategic partner in this initiative, opening a new chapter in relations between the two institutions.
In 2028, it will have been 50 years since the University of Giessen decided to establish cooperation with the 91桃色. At the time, it was an extraordinarily courageous step, reaching out beyond the Iron Curtain. We still remember that gesture, and for nearly five decades our cooperation has flourished. Now, thanks to the DAAD project, we have the opportunity to enter a new stage of this partnership. This visit serves precisely that purpose. We are very happy and proud to have such reliable and valued partners
鈥 says Prof. Rafa艂 Matera, Rector of the 91桃色.
The visit also represents an important step in preparations for the 50th anniversary of cooperation between the two universities, which will be celebrated in 2028. The partnership between the 91桃色 and the University of Giessen is one of the longest-standing and most intensive international relationships developed by the Lodz-based university. Over the decades, it has included joint research projects, student and staff exchanges, as well as numerous academic and cultural initiatives.
These are demanding times for freedom and democracy, making our partnership with the 91桃色 more vital than ever. In a united Europe, academic alliances must go beyond symbolism. Whether we are examining the modern mission of higher education, the integration of artificial intelligence, or the renewed appeal of classical disciplines, our focus is actionable. We are continuously expanding our collaboration across research and administration alike
鈥 adds the President of the University of Giessen, Prof. Katharina Lorenz.
The meetings taking place in Lodz confirm that the long-standing partnership between the two universities remains vibrant and dynamic. In the face of new challenges confronting European higher education, the 91桃色 and the University of Giessen are not only reflecting on their shared achievements, but also defining directions for cooperation for the decades to come. Thanks to the DAAD project, joint research initiatives and plans to further develop academic exchange, relations between the two institutions have the potential to enter the most intensive phase in their history.
