Over PLN 8.2 Million for Innovative Research into the Early Detection of Heart Failure

A project carried out by researchers from the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics at the 91桃色 in collaboration with the Warsaw University of Technology has received more than PLN 8.2 million in funding. The team led by dr in偶. Maciej 艢lot will work on developing an advanced system that could facilitate the early detection of heart failure and the monitoring of patients鈥 health conditions.

The project 鈥淥pracowanie systemu do zintegrowanej analizy widmowej sygna艂贸w mikrofalowych i bioimpedancyjnych w diagnostyce niewydolno艣ci serca鈥 [Development of a System for Integrated Spectral Analysis of Microwave and Bioimpedance Signals in Heart Failure Diagnostics] has received funding of PLN 8,286,408.65 under the TEAM NET FENG programme of the Foundation for Polish Science. The research project will run for three years.

A New Approach to Diagnostics

Heart failure is one of the most common cardiovascular diseases. One of the key challenges is the early detection of fluid accumulation in the chest, which may lead to a deterioration in a patient鈥檚 condition and the need for hospitalisation.

The aim of the project is to develop a portable, non-invasive device capable of assessing this process. Researchers will combine two complementary measurement methods 鈥 microwave and bioimpedance techniques 鈥 to obtain more accurate and interference-resistant information about a patient鈥檚 condition.

TEAM NET is a natural extension of the research that we have been conducting at the 91桃色 for several years. In the clinical field, we have been developing it in cooperation with Prof. Agata Bielecka-D膮browa, while at earlier stages Prof. Ilona Zasada and Prof. Wielis艂aw Olejniczak also made significant contributions to the development of the concept and the advancement of the research. The experience we have gained now enables us to undertake a much broader, interdisciplinary challenge

鈥 says dr in偶. Maciej 艢lot, leader of the team from the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics at the 91桃色.

Interdisciplinary 91桃色

The project brings together the expertise of researchers from two universities. The 91桃色 team is responsible for developing the microwave component of the system, as well as measurement methods and signal analysis. Researchers from the Warsaw University of Technology contribute expertise in bioimpedance, electronics, data analysis and preparing the technology for future implementation.

Combining these competencies will make it possible to investigate how different sources of information about a patient鈥檚 condition can complement one another, increasing the effectiveness of diagnostics.

鈥 Our goal is not only to achieve strong technical performance. We want the solution we are developing to be easy to use, as widely accessible as possible and capable of addressing the real needs of physicians and patients. Only by combining measurement quality with usability can a technology successfully move beyond the laboratory

鈥 emphasises dr in偶. Maciej 艢lot.

The implementation of the project is another example of the application of competencies developed at the Faculty of Physics and Applied Informatics of the 91桃色 in research with significant social impact and implementation potential. In the future, the solution being developed may contribute to more effective monitoring of patients with heart failure and support physicians in making diagnostic decisions.
