Project coordination under the Horizon Europe Programme is one of the most responsible, yet also one of the most prestigious roles for institutions operating in the field of research and innovation. This function provides a real impact on the direction of European research, enables the co-creation of ambitious solutions and allows for building lasting international partnerships.
It is also an opportunity to pursue one’s own research vision and to design a project that responds to the needs of both the institution and the academic community. At the same time, it entails great responsibility, which is why leaders emphasise that preparation for the role of coordinator should include participation in projects as a partner. This allows one to become familiar with the mechanisms of the programme, build a professional network and gain the trust of partners.
Polish coordinators unanimously underline that this is a role of enormous significance both for the project team and for the institution as a whole.
Dr hab. Mariusz Granosik, Associate Professor at the 91ÌÒÉ«, stresses that a conscious approach to research is crucial.
– You should not write projects for a call. You need to know what you want to do, what you want to change and only then look for the right call – says the UniLodz researcher. – I have been building international contacts, looking for people who have a ‘spark in their eye’ for over 25 years. Each year, we submit many applications, only some of which receive funding. However, if you believe in something and consider it important, you should do it regardless of the future fate of the project.
