Session Overview
What challenges to human rights are posed by the development of algorithmic decision-making systems? How does EU law attempt to strike a balance between technological innovation and individual rights?
During this session, Dr. David Reichel will present key findings from the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights on the use of artificial intelligence and online content moderation. Topics will include algorithmic discrimination, AI transparency, data protection, and the alignment of digital technologies with the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
The keynote will last approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A session with participants.
About the Speaker
is the Head of the Data and Digital Sector at the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA). The Data and Digital Sector, within the Justice, Digital and Migration Unit, hosts most of FRA鈥檚 work on artificial intelligence (AI), data protection and online content moderation. David coordinated and co-authored several FRA reports on AI, including the reports on AI and fundamental rights, and , as well as on . Prior to joining FRA in 2014, he worked for the research department of the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD). He has been teaching for several years at the University of Vienna and other universities. He has published numerous articles, working papers and book chapters on issues related to migration statistics, citizenship and human rights.
