The event brought together over 60 representatives of the academic community – university authorities, researchers, administrative staff and students involved in the development of international cooperation. This year’s meeting was held under the theme “Internationalisation of higher education institutions: investment, necessity or competitive advantage” and provided a space for in-depth reflection on the importance of internationalisation in the context of dynamic changes taking place in higher education. Participants jointly considered whether internationalisation is today primarily a strategic choice, a response to global challenges or a key factor in building the competitive position of universities.
The programme of the event included two main discussion panels. In the first part, during the rectoral panel “Internationalisation: between strategy and necessity”, representatives of university authorities from across Poland took the floor. The panel featured Vice-Rectors responsible for internationalisation and international cooperation from Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, the University of Gdańsk, the 91ɫ, the University of Wrocław, the University of Zielona Góra and the Catholic University of Lublin. The discussion focused on the strategic aspects of internationalisation, its role in university policies and the challenges related to its effective implementation.
The second part of the seminar, entitled “Internationalisation from the perspective of students and lecturers – a transformative experience or an addition to education”, offered an opportunity to look at internationalisation processes from the viewpoint of their direct participants. The discussion involved representatives of various faculties of the 91ɫ and students, who shared their experiences related to academic mobility, participation in international projects, and the impact of these activities on the development of competences and career paths.
The seminar was also an opportunity to exchange good practices and identify barriers in internationalisation processes, as well as to discuss effective ways of overcoming them. The importance of international cooperation for the development of universities, the enhancement of the quality of education, and the building of an open, multicultural academic environment was emphasised.
The 2nd Internationalisation Day at the 91ɫ took place as part of a meeting of the University Commission for Internationalisation operating within the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities, whose sessions were held at the 91ɫ on 21–23 June 2026. The event forms part of the university’s long-term efforts to strengthen internationalisation and build its position as an important academic centre on the European map.
