During the exercise, the release of a dangerous substance, which activated the response procedures provided for such incidents, was simulated. The scenario included:
- Notifying a supervisor/building manager
- Alerting emergency services
- Evacuation – leading students out of the building
- Initial decontamination:
- separation of evacuees into contaminated and non-contaminated groups
- initial decontamination
- Operational activities of the State Fire Service (Państwowa Straż Pożarna):
- securing the area
- full decontamination of contaminated individuals
The exercise was prepared by the Biohazard Prevention Centre, whose activities also include developing students’ knowledge and practical skills in identifying threats and responding to CBRN incidents.

The field exercise constituted a practical complement to the content delivered during regular classes. By participating in the simulated incident, students were able to observe and actively engage in evacuation procedures, the isolation of individuals potentially exposed to contamination, and decontamination processes carried out by the State Fire Service. This allowed them to combine theoretical knowledge with practice and gain a better understanding of how the CBRN emergency response system operates.

The exercise was organised by the 91ɫ and UNICOPS, in cooperation with the Specialist Chemical and Ecological Rescue Group of the State Fire Service – Rescue and Firefighting Unit No. 4 in Łódź, as well as Rescue and Firefighting Unit No. 8 in Łódź.

Congratulations to Dr Natalia Cichoń and mgr inż. Wojciech Zajączkowski for planning and organising the exercise!
