Art Nouveau ornaments, decorated tenement fa莽ades, courtyards and forgotten alleyways. 艁贸诲藕 as seen through the eyes of senior citizens is full of fascinating details and encourages reflection on the changes taking place in the city. The exhibition 鈥溑伱郴迮 Through the Lens of Senior Citizens鈥 is the result of the work of the photography section of the Helena Kretz Lodz University of the Third Age. Its authors observe the rapidly changing architecture of the city, capturing places of particular historical, aesthetic and sentimental value, including those that may disappear from the urban landscape of 艁贸诲藕.
During walks with guide Anna Drzewiecka, participants in the project used the 鈥淔riendly City鈥 application and followed the recommendations of Prof. Aneta Paw艂owska. Under the artistic supervision of Grzegorz Nowak, they selected and photographed sites that best reflect the character of the city.
A City of Details and Contrasts
The photographs encourage viewers to look up and notice what often escapes attention in everyday life: decorative window and gateway frames, bas-reliefs, sculptures, ornate balconies and balustrades. They reveal the richness of architectural ornamentation, the diversity of styles and traces of the former splendour of Lodz tenement houses.
The authors also look beyond restored fa莽ades, into courtyards and alleyways where time seems to pass differently. They create a portrait of a multidimensional city, full of contrasts, light and shadow: 艁贸诲藕 whose beauty and imperfections together constitute its unique character.
