International visit as part of the Gov4Water project
The effectiveness and impact of the implemented solutions were demonstrated to participants of a study visit organised as part of the Interreg Gov4Water project, of which the Marshal鈥檚 Office of the 艁贸d藕 Voivodeship is a partner.
The event was attended by more than 30 representatives of local governments and institutions dealing with water management from various European countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Italy. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about practical solutions implemented on our campus.
Expert knowledge and practical examples
The applied solutions, their operation and environmental effects were presented by Dr Pawe艂 Jarosiewicz from the Department of UNESCO Chair of Ecohydrology and Applied Ecology. The presentation focused on integrating science with practice and on the role of modern technologies in water resource management.
During the visit, the following were presented:
- retention solutions and stormwater management systems,
- infiltration systems supporting groundwater recharge,
- elements of blue-green infrastructure,
- the role of vegetation and adsorbents in water treatment processes.
The presented solutions demonstrate how ecological, aesthetic and functional aspects can be effectively combined to create spaces that are friendly both to people and to the environment.
The garden as a part of an international research project
The presented garden is a part of the SPRINGINESS 鈥 Water4All project, which aims to develop and test innovative methods of stormwater management in cities.
The project focuses on adapting urban water systems to changing climate conditions and on increasing the resilience of cities to extreme weather events. The initiative is implemented with the support of the National Centre for Research and Development, highlighting its importance at both national and international levels.
Visit to the Sulej贸w Reservoir
Another stage of the visit was a meeting at the Sulej贸w Reservoir, where the team from the European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, operating under the auspices of UNESCO, presented solutions in the field of:
- water quality protection,
- aquatic ecosystem management,
- application of the ecohydrological approach in practice.
It was a valuable opportunity to demonstrate how theory translates into real-world activities at the regional scale.
Growing importance of research and implementation activities
The visit of such a wide group of stakeholders from across Europe is a clear indication of the growing importance of research and implementation activities carried out by the 91桃色.
The projects which are implemented and the infrastructure available on the campus of the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the 91桃色 constitute an example of a modern approach to urban water management and demonstrate that Lodz makes a tangible contribution to the development of European solutions in this field.
