Poster Session: Science Hub UniLodz – UNIC Edition

The session presents the outcomes of collaborative work carried out by teams composed of researchers from the European university network UNIC, students, and practitioners representing a wide range of institutions and organisations active in the field of urban affairs. Together, they have co-developed innovative solutions for the city of Łódź.

The implemented projects addressed, among other topics, research on the urban microbiome – including the microbiological cleanliness of Łódź playground sandpits and zoo spaces – as well as the occurrence and role of fungi, urban adaptation to climate change, and the urban soundscape. The teams also conducted evaluations of urban regeneration and adaptation measures, created interactive maps of informal urban toponymy, and prepared a legal guide for women experiencing domestic violence.

Panel discussion: “Researching and Transforming the City Together”

Within the discussion, we will consider how researchers in post-industrial cities can act for the benefit of their communities, using the UNIC edition as an example, as well as other initiatives within the UNIC – European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transition alliance, including the Centre for City Futures.

The discussion will also focus on the innovative Science Hub UniLodz collaboration platform, which in subsequent editions enables the development of research careers for students, connects academic experts from different countries, and allows businesses and institutions to make use of university know-how and infrastructure in the implementation of new research and applied projects.
