The Power of Popularisation! Awards Presented in Competitions for Best Text and Film

In the second edition of the Prof. Mirosław Przybylski Competition for the Best Popular Science Text, 46 submissions were received, while the competition for a popular science film attracted 9 productions. We would like to thank everyone who made the effort and took part in these initiatives. Below we present the full list of award winners.

Award Ceremony

On 19 June 2026, a cumulative event was held combining summaries and award presentations for inspiring initiatives and competitions of the 91ÌÒÉ«. In the morning, pupils participating in the "Talented at School, Brilliant at the University" programme received their diplomas and gifts. This was followed by distinctions awarded to high school students involved in the project Innovation Laboratory, and finally, awards were presented to students who had submitted their works to the Best Popular Science Text and Film competitions. It was remarkable how many talented young people we had the pleasure of hosting that day at the Training Centre of the 91ÌÒÉ«! We warmly congratulate everyone for their engagement and we cordially invite those currently considering their choice of study programme to join the 91ÌÒÉ«.

Results

In the Prof. MirosÅ‚aw Przybylski Competition for the Best Popular Science Article of the 91ÌÒÉ« in 2026, the awards were granted as follows:

Individual category – best popular science text:

  • 1st place and a prize of PLN 2,000
    Maciej Heliński, a student of Psychology at the Faculty of Educational Sciences
    for the text entitled: Przewidywanie, kopiuj-wklej, 200 milisekund i inne sekrety rozmowy [Prediction, copy-paste, 200 milliseconds and other secrets of conversation]
     

  • 2nd place and a prize of PLN 1,000
    Jowita Olszewska, a second-year student of Creative Writing at the Faculty of Philology
    for the text entitled: Cyfrowe zombie i elektroniczne golemy, czyli kto zabił Internet i dlaczego mówi się, że jest Martwy? [Digital zombies and electronic golems, or who killed the Internet and why is it said to be dead?]
     

  • 3rd place and a prize of PLN 500
    Aleks Maryniak, a Psychology student at the Faculty of Educational Sciences
    for the text entitled: Czy można wyjść z siebie i stanąć obok? [Is it possible to step outside oneself and stand beside oneself?]

Team category – best popular science text:

  • 1st place and a prize of PLN 2,500
    was awarded to Jakub Lisik, Michalina Kędzierska, Natalia Machnik and Michalina Siudowska, students of Microbiology at the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection
    for the text entitled: Wall-E czy SkyNet - jak sztuczna inteligencja wpływa na nasze życie [Wall-E or SkyNet – how artificial intelligence affects our lives]

Best Popular Science Film Competition for the UniLodz Student Science Clubs 

The jury decided to grant one distinction:

  • Distinction and a prize of PLN 1,500 for the Student Science Club Kwadrat, operating at the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science for the film entitled: Wymiar Hausdorffa [Hausdorff Dimension]

Awards

In addition to the monetary prizes listed above, all the winners received albums funded by the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the 91ÌÒÉ«, as well as books donated by the Lodz University Press.
Moreover, the winners will be invited to photo sessions, and all texts will be published on the 91ÌÒÉ« website and promoted via the university's social media channels. They will also find their lasting place in the digital repository of the 91ÌÒÉ« Library.

Your Texts Will Be Published in Books!

This is not the end. The texts submitted by competition participants are so impressive that, by decision of the university authorities, they will be published in the form of a book. The premiere of the volume containing texts from the first edition of the competition is planned for the beginning of the new academic year. Work on the second volume has already begun, involving the selection of over 20 texts that will undergo peer review and, once qualified for publication, editorial processing. The second volume is scheduled for release next year.
