City: Europe: Future
Most Poles 鈥 like most Europeans and most of the world's population 鈥 live in cities.
The city is the centre of events. It is a space for social interaction and a forum for the exchange of ideas. It is a platform for democratic processes, dialogue and cultural diversity. It was in cities that the ideas of liberalism, civil rights and tolerance were born and implemented, only to penetrate into state systems.
The city is an incubator of social change. It is a leader of cohesion, a provider of social services, an effective implementer of immigration policy.
Cities are the driving force of the economy: a stimulant for development, creativity and innovation; a generator of wealth 鈥 85% of the global GDP is produced in cities. .
The city means independence and freedom of choice; the ability to be whoever you want. It is a perspective of personal development, access to education, culture and entertainment.
The city is a place where the greatest challenges of modernity are revealed. This is 75% of global use of natural resources, 60-80% of greenhouse gas emissions. It is unemployment, poverty, social segregation and exclusion. The city is an obligation: social, economic, environmental and climate 鈥 the key to solving global problems and improving the well-being of future generations of citizens.
The city is the future.
In 2024, Poles took part in local government elections and elections to the European Parliament. The way in which cities, Poland and Europe address the most important problems of the contemporary world will depend on the informed voices of citizens and the policies conducted by their elected representatives. After eight long years, we can again be a part of the solution. For yourself. For Poland. For Europe.
Europe is more than a continent. It is a community of values and one of the most successful economic development projects based on the idea of a common market within the European Union.
Europe is an area of freedom and security, and in this context 鈥 urgent challenges related to the ongoing war in Ukraine: the need to intensify actions to maintain partnership relations with the USA and Great Britain, and to develop our own defence doctrine and energy independence.
Europe stands for social justice, gender equality, protection of human rights and respect for diversity. There is also a growing need to strengthen these values that are fundamental to democracy in the face of rising populism and global migration.
Europe means economic, social and territorial cohesion and solidarity. There is an urgent need for institutional reform that will preserve the community while strengthening the agency and dynamism of action, which are conditions for future enlargement.
Europe is a sustainable development based on sustainable economic growth and price stability, and a highly competitive market economy. Today, there is also a need to reconcile these goals with the ethical challenges related to new technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as the needs of environmental protection.
Europe is committed to a green transformation: creating the infrastructure and environments that will enable smooth transitions to low and zero emissions without harming national economies.
A strong and united Europe is a condition for peace, sustainable economic development and the well-being of its citizens.
Europe is a future.
The event is organised by the 鈥 an interdisciplinary cultural and social organisation and think tank. The strategic partners include the City of Lodz and the Lodz Event Centre.
