Yesterday, the 1st Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Forum was held in 艁贸d藕. Organised jointly by the Foundation 鈥淲 cz艂owieku widzie膰 brata鈥, the HaKoach Association and the 91桃色, the event attracted participants from across Poland.
On behalf of the 91桃色, attendees were welcomed by the Rector鈥檚 Representative for Equal Treatment, Dr Aleksandra R贸偶alska. The UniLodz perspective in the discussions was represented by Dr Agata Rudnicka-Reichel, Marta Nowacka, Marta Malinowska and Eliza Gaust.
Representatives of the 91桃色, as well as members of the Equality Council, were also present among the audience.
The discussion panels featured representatives of non-governmental organisations, businesses, higher education institutions and public institutions. The voices of persons with disabilities, Deaf people and individuals living with rare diseases were also strongly represented. These perspectives are particularly important when discussing equal opportunities and accessibility for everyone.
Throughout the forum, participants repeatedly emphasised that some of the greatest challenges facing us today, regardless of industry or sector, concern increasing social polarisation and the way we engage in dialogue. Building communication based on respect, attentiveness and empathy is becoming especially important, as is developing language that does not divide but instead helps us better understand the diverse experiences and needs of others.
As Dr Aleksandra R贸偶alska highlighted:
At the University of 艁贸d藕, we promote diversity and equality through a coherent equality policy, under which we carry out a range of initiatives. Thanks to the 鈥楿niLodz: a discrimination-free zone鈥 project, students and staff were able to take part in workshops and training sessions, as well as receive psychological support. Previously, as part of the RESET (Redesigning Equality and Scientific Excellence Together) project, we trained 2,500 people in anti-discrimination, non-violent communication and the implementation of a DEI culture at the university. We also initiate artistic projects, such as the forthcoming exhibition 鈥榋wroty鈥, and information and education campaigns, e.g. 鈥楿niLodz RAZEM鈥. These events contribute to building an inclusive culture at the University of 艁贸d藕.
At UniLodz, we have been working for years to ensure that every student, doctoral student and employee can feel safe and know that support is available whenever needed. Although not all solutions are perfect, we continue to develop initiatives and tools that help build a more open, accessible and welcoming academic community.
The forum provided an opportunity not only to exchange experiences and good practices, but also to reflect collectively on how to create workplaces, educational environments and social spaces where diversity is recognised as a value and where equal opportunities and inclusion become part of everyday practice.
