"Solving language and cultural problem in proverb translation from Arabic into English鈥�
Creating a comparable effect in figurative language translation is not only a matter of translation but also an interdisciplinary process that requires insights from related branches of knowledge. Therefore, proverbs, being mostly figurative language, translating across unrelated languages and cultures has made achieving a comparable effect in their translation challenging. This study investigates how to solve this problem by introducing a multifocal reconceptualization theory (MRT) as a problem-solving method to make proverb translation stimulate the responses of the target audience. MRT is mainly based on insights from linguistics, psychology, cognitive linguistics, and anthropology. It found that accessibility and recognition of the meaning of figurative images of proverbs are based on prototypicality, cultural specificity, and the inner conceptualization between formal and referential meanings.
